The File Mappings tab

The File Mappings tab lets you tell Adobe GoLive how to open files in the appropriate applications by double-clicking the files. GoLive provides a default set of file mappings, and you can add mappings to the set.

GoLive file mapping supports cross-platform site development by providing Mac OS file type and file creator options in Windows. By default, the columns showing these settings are hidden in Windows, but you can show them as necessary.

To add or delete a file mapping specification:

1 Choose Edit > Web Settings.

2 Click the File Mappings tab.

3 Open a Mime type set, either the set you are adding the mapping to or the set containing the mapping to be deleted. For example, open application/ or audio/.

4 Do one of the following:

  • To add a mapping, choose Add Suffix from the context menu for the Mime type set and edit the new mapping. The mapping added has the suffix "???," which you need to change during the edit.
  • To delete a mapping, choose Clear from the context menu for the mapping.

  • To edit a file mapping specification.

    1 Display the Inspector.

2 Choose Edit > Web Settings.

3 Click the File Mappings tab.

4 Open the Mime type set containing the mapping and select the mapping.

5 Make changes in the File Info Suffix Inspector as necessary:

  • To change the FTP method used when the file is uploaded or downloaded, choose a transfer option. The default option is Text, the standard method for HTML pages.
  • To change the application launched when the file is double-clicked in Mac OS, either specify the file type and file creator or click the Browse button next to the Application text box in the File Info Extension Inspector, browse to the application, and click Open. The current application is listed in the Application column of the File Mappings tab. If it is "Default," it is the application that would be launched if you double-clicked on the Mac OS desktop.
  • To change the application launched when the file is double-clicked in Windows, click the Browse button next to the Application text box in the File Info Extension Inspector, browse to the application, and click Open. The current application is listed in the Application column of the File Mappings tab. If it is "Default," it is the application that would be launched if you double-clicked on the Windows desktop.

  • To show or hide columns on the File Mappings tab:

Choose an item from the context menu for any of the column heads of the tab. You can show all the columns, hide all the columns, or show a selection of columns.

To use Internet Control Panel mappings instead of GoLive mappings (Mac OS):

Select Use Internet Control Panel in the File Mappings tab.

Note: If you add or edit a mapping with the same filename suffix as one of the mappings in the Internet Control Panel while you are using the Internet Control Panel mappings, your mapping will be overwritten.
